Full list of road closures and roadworks across the North East this week (2024)

There are a number of road closures in place across the North East this week that drivers should be aware of.

Some roads are closed while others have lane closures. Temporary traffic measures or diversion routes may also be in place on roads in the region. Motorists are urged to make allowances for these closures and use alternative routes if necessary.

Newcastle

• A695 Clayton Street West One Way Street closed due to roadworks from Bewick Street to A186 Westgate Road. Until 21st June.

• Leazes Lane in both directions closed due to roadworks between Leazes Park Road and Queen Victoria Road. Until 8th November.

• Market Street One Way Street closed due to long-term roadworks from Pilgrim Street to John Dobson Street. Until 17th March 2025.

• Pilgrim Street Southbound closed due to long-term roadworks from Blackett Street to Market Street. Until 17th March 2025.

• Regent Road in both directions closed due to roadworks from Henry Street to A191 Salters Road. Until 3rd June.

• Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Shakespeare Street around Pilgrim Street. Until 31st July.

• Temporary traffic lights due to roadworks on Worswick Street around Pilgrim Street. Until 31st July.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Broomfield Road in both directions from North Avenue to Linden Road. Until 28th May.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Brunswick Place in both directions between Northumberland Court and Northumberland Street. Until 16:00 on 26th June.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Deuchar Street in both directions from Osborne Avenue to Rosebery Alley. Until 5th June.

• No through traffic allowed due to long-term roadworks on Heath Court in both directions from A167 Tyne Bridge to Manor Chare. Until 0:59 on 2nd June 2028.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Hotspur Street in both directions from Stratford Road to Heaton Park Road. Until 25th July.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Lansdowne Place from Jubilee Road to Elsdon Road. Until 3rd June.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Mowbray Street in both directions from Stratford Road to Wandsworth Road. Until 25th July.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Pudding Chare One Way Street from Bigg Market to St John Street. Until 17th June.

• No through traffic allowed due to gas main work on Spires Lane in both directions between Grace Street and Byker Crescent. Until 30th May.

• No through traffic allowed due to roadworks on Starbeck Avenue and Chelmsford Grove in both directions from Dinsdale Road to Goldspink Lane. Until 1st July.

Gateshead

• Narrow lanes and speed restriction of 50 mph due to major widening works on A1 Western Bypass Westbound from J65 (Birtley) to J67 (Coalhouse Roundabout). Expect delays. Work to create an extra lane in each direction. Until 31st May 2025.
