I read this aloud to my daughter tonight and she audibly gasped when Katie went into the paintings - it's such magic! What a glorious series! Now she knows about Claude Monet! Brilliant stuff!

Beautiful book with the work of Monet and his lovely pastel gardens. Monet used to be my absolute favorite painter when I was in 6th grade at the beginning of my after school art classes at camp.

The children can pick which piece of art work showcased in the book and recreate it as their own. This shows them how we can get inspired from great works, and create something totally new and call it our own through similar techniques that the artist used as impressionalism.

Bringing classic art to life for children yet again, this newest installment in the hugely successful Katie series has the leading lady focusing on the fascinating works of Monet. Katie is desperate to win an art competition at the gallery, but the judging is at three o'clock—surely she can paint a terrific picture before the deadline, can't she? She’s got to try. Featuring the most iconic paintings by one of the world’s most loved artists, the masterpieces visited in the book include: Bathers at La Grenouillere, Blanche Monet Painting; Path through the Poppies; The Rue Montorgueil, Paris; and The Waterlily Pond.

The author considers himself a sort of ambassador of art and music, introducing children to the fine arts through his beautifully illustrated story books. This book is from his “Katie” series about a little girl who often visits the art gallery with her grandmother. In this book, Katie visits the gallery and magically steps into five of Monet’s paintings where she commiserates with the painted subjects and enjoys some delightful adventures as well. What a fun way to fully “immerse” yourself into a Monet Masterpiece!

A sweet little book about a little girl visiting an art museum with her grandmother. They see and ad for a Monet contest that closes at 3. While grandmother rests, Katie jumps into several paintings to attempt an entry. Finally, in the last one, her painting falls into the mud and she thinks it is ruined. But, she has produced a picture of the Japanese bridge and its reflection. Good to try with my students.

I've heard so much about this series. It reminds me of the idea behind "The Story Orchestra" in that the goal is to introduce children to great works of art. I thought this was very well done, in a way that would keep kids interested while definitely familiarizing them with classic artwork. I'll be watching for others in the series, for sure.

Lovely book with a delightful story which I can see using with a France unit or art unit.

I am so glad I discovered this series for homeschooling my grandkids. It's too bad the pandemic has made it unsafe for them to attend school but we can't ameliorate that situation until Joe Biden is elected.

In the meantime, I will keep finding creative ways to teach my granddaughter and grandson.

Katie has to paint a picture like Monet to enter a competition and enlists the help of a painter to help her. James Mayhew’s illustrations are gorgeous and Katie blends in perfectly with the artworks of Monet. An informative and welcoming introduction to the works of a revered painter.

Exactly what you would expect from a Katie book. Hope to keep this book long enough to take my daughter to see some of the paintings in it.

A fun children's book to read about Monet and some of his well known paintings.

I think this a lovely colourful book for children around 32 page and introduces children to some of Monet paintings.

Katie learns how to paint, but its not easy, she almost gives up, but in the end it is a great painting and she wins a prize.

4 stars for the beautiful illustrations, 3 stars for the literary merit.

Love the Katie series, as does the whole family. This one doesn't hugely stand out, but I have no qualms with it. Katie travels through a bunch of paintings seeking something to draw for the painting contest, finally learning about the smudginess that makes watercolours work!

I think the Katie books that work the best are those where she has a kid as a friend she's running around with, like Katie's Sunday Afternoon, Katie and the Sunflowers, or Katie meets the impressionists. But the story still works and introduces kids to a number of great paintings and painters. Definitely worth a read. My three year old enjoyed this, and the other Katie stories, and requests them often!

Creative and imaginative (accurately describes a nana!!!) Really love the concept of entering into each painting

A friend of mine gave me this book because she knows that I love Monet and I have three little girls that also love these books. Shhhh... don't tell anyone but I love children's books!

This one does not disappoint. The adventure of a little girl obviously resonates with my girls. They love all the paintings and have so many questions. They also remind me that we really should not touch the pictures in the museum. (Whew! Glad they retained that lesson!) I think I may need to get the rest of the "Katie" books. Some we use in our home education curriculum... the rest would just be fun!
